Geelong’s wine region contains an excellent array of boutique, family owned wineries and is divided into three sub-regions, the Surf Coast, the Moorabool Valley and the Bellarine Peninsula, each with differing soils, conditions and wine styles. A stunning region with approximately 86 wineries, and abundant in variety, the Geelong wine region is renowned for its Shiraz, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. However, adventurous winemakers throughout the region are experimenting with plantings of Riesling, Gewurztraminer and Merlot, as well as more the more unusual varieties such as Gamay, Sangiovese and Cabernet Franc to name a few.
