Vegan friendly wine is wine that has been produced without the use of any animal products. Vegan wine is exactly the same as ‘normal wine’, the only difference is the fining process.
During the winemaking process, the liquid is filtered through substances called “fining agents”, and the most commonly used fining agents are derived from animals products. This fining process is used to remove proteins, yeast, haziness and “off” flavours and colourings. The fining agents stick to small particles in the wine, making them big enough to filter out. In vegan wine, any fining agents used to improve the wine’s clarity and flavour profile are all natural and animal-friendly.
