The Macedon Wine region is located less than an hour from Melbourne and is Australia's coolest mainland wine region with more than 40 vineyards located between 350m and 700m above sea level. The high altitude and chilly conditions in the region are perfect for quality sparkling wine, as well as ideal for growing Chardonnay, Riesling and Pinot Noir. Although, other varieties such as Pinot Gris, Gewurztraminer, Sauvignon Blanc and Shiraz to name a few are successfully grown in the region. The Macedon Ranges might not be as well-known as other wine regions in Victoria, however their exceptional wines are widely awarded and celebrated.
