The Adelaide Hills wine region is located in the Mount Lofty Ranges, east of Adelaide and consists of two sub-regions, Lenswood & Piccadilly Valley. It is the closest wine region to Adelaide CBD and has over 60 wineries to visit. It is one of the largest geographical wine regions in Australia and is one of the most diverse in terms of climate, soil and topography. Being one of the coolest and most elevated regions in Australia makes it ideal for growing Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. In addition to being highly acclaimed for these French varieties, the region is also renowned for producing excellent cool climate Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc and Shiraz.
