Rahona Valley produce some of the best sparkling wines on the Peninsula with perfectly situated cool climate vineyards on the 'top of the hill’. Making sparkling wines in the traditional method, base wine is barrel fermented and aged with extended time on lees, followed by secondary fermentation in the bottle and late disgorgement to allow complexity of flavour to develop. Rahona sparkling wines are evidence of what can be created with patience, care and attention.
We don't aim to be everywhere.
We don't aim to make everything.
But we do aim to be seriously good.
We are passionate about what we do. From the care taken in growing the grapes, to sustainable farming practices and taking time to let wine develop in the bottle, through to creating a cellar door experience that allows us to share our love of wine with other people, we do things differently because it really does make a difference.
Toby and Dianne made a 'vine change’ to Rahona Valley in July 2014, moving from an inner city suburb of Melbourne to the welcoming community of Red Hill on the Mornington Peninsula. Visit Rahona cellar door on the first weekend of the month to meet Toby and Dianne, hear their story and enjoy some seriously good wine.
Natural beauty surrounds Rahona Valley in all directions and it was this that gave inspiration to our new label design: the great Wedge Tail eagles that soar high above the valley. The world’s largest raptors with a wing span of up to 3.5 metres are mesmerising to watch from Rahona’s cellar door.
The Rahona Estate vineyard was planted in 1991 and is one of the more interesting small vineyards on the Mornington Peninsula, on a steep north-facing slope of a secluded valley in the Red Hill area known for its ancient red basalt soils. The estate's Pinot Noir is produced from a single 4 acre vineyard, consisting of 5000 close planted vines. Reflecting true Burgundian principles, the vineyard is the most densely planted, in term of vines per acre, on the Peninsula. This helps control the vigour of vines as they have to compete for nutrients, resulting in high quality fruit. But producing the best wine requires care and attention to detail. Toby and Dianne's philosophy for Rahona Valley is to produce the highest quality wine through best practice vineyard management and sustainable farming principles.

Growing up in wine region, Natalie Fryar completed school work experience with Hardys winery at age 14 and at 16 she did her very first vintage. Natalie has enjoyed a stellar career that has taken her all over the world from Great Western to Champagne and Tasmania. Known in the industry as “the Queen of Bubbles”, Natalie was for over 14 years the winemaker at Jansz Tasmania, helping to establish it as a leading Australian sparkling wine specialist. Today she has her own sparkling wine company Bellebone, a gin company called Abel Gin and consults to numerous wineries, including Pipers Brook Vineyard, who make sparkling wine under the Kreglinger, Pipers Brook and Ninth Island labels. In late 2018, Natalie came on board as Chief Winemaker at Rahona Valley to help us fulfil our dream of making world class sparkling wine.
