Our MVR is a blend made in the traditional style to produce a dry wine which is fresh, clean and textural and is designed to complement food. The precise portions of each variety used in each vintage vary according to season but will usually comprise Marsanne 50%, Viognier 35% and Roussanne 15%. Each batch is fermented with natural yeasts and temperature controlled to enhance flavours and aromatics and then transferred to French oak for eight months.

Details

Let us introduce ourselves. We are Tim & Diane Robertson. In 2007 we purchased a newly-planted vineyard at Harcourt North overlooking Mount Alexander. And so began Lome Vineyard.

VINEYARD

We chose the Harcourt Valley because its granitic soils are some of the oldest in Victoria. With Castlemaine 18 km to the south, and Bendigo 31 km to the north, the region is a natural food haven; home to apple and pear orchards, vineyards and dairies. Our vineyard is on the east sloping site, with granite soils and sweeping views of Mount Alexander. We have also purchased the neighbouring paddock which has an old cottage and some vines which were planted in 2000. Over the last decade, we have planted new white wine varieties, built a home and commenced wine production. 

THE SOILS

Harcourt is part of a Devonian granite massif (Harcourt Granodiorite) which was intruded into the surrounding metasediments over 360 million years ago. These are some of the oldest soils in Victoria. The highly reflective granitic sands provide a substrate that has near perfect texture but limited fertility, amking it ideal for grapevine production. It's all part of a granite belt which runs from Ravenswood in the west to Elphinstone in the east, with Mount Alexander forming a commanding central feature.

Lome produces two wines – an award-winning Shiraz made from four clones and a white blend of Marsanne Viognier and Roussanne. All grapes are estate-grown. 

AWARDS

Lome 2015 Shiraz won gold at the Ballarat Wine Show, winning: Waller and Chester Trophy for Best Regional Red Wine; John Robb Memorial Trophy for Best Regional Shiraz and Rob Mackay Gold Sovereign Trophy for Champion Wine of Show.
