Eddie McDougall Wines & Co. Rosé 2018

Quick Overview

Powerful, complex, and shaped like a Masserati, this rosé is produced from one of the best vintages and collection of vineyards. Only in the best year do we get the joy of including a tiny smattering of Vermentino into the blend, which adds an exotic level of complex aromas. Our signature traits of wild herbs, cranberries, and violets shine through with immense presence while the textural element is the most sophisticated we have witnessed to date. A wine that purrs with a generous after taste.

Ambitious, serious, and made to turn heads. I've taken my obsession of this style to the next level with the purpose to craft a rosé that is savoury and delicate. Pale in colour and reflective of its French counterparts, the drinker will enjoy gazing at this wine from afar, while becoming increasingly eager to take a sip.

Made with Tempranillo, Nebbiolo, and Syrah the blend is thoughtful and precise. Assembled like Mozart’s orchestra, it displays a generous amount of all the classical notes of citrus and berry fruits. The added layers of complexity is chimed in with tonnes of fresh cut herbs, spices, and crushed granite stones. This wine is mesmerising and unforgettable.

Technical Sheet

All parcels are processed and fermented separately utilising a variety of techniques. WIth Tempranillo, we only use the free-run juice and discard the pressings. Then it's fermented at 14-16°C. The Syrah and Nebbiolo are handled very oxidatively as there is no sulphur dioxide used at juice level. The juice is pressed without separation of free run and pressing juices and is then fermented in a mix of in-tank and in-barrel. All wine is fermented with the use of commercial yeast strains, which ensure the full amount of sugars are converted successfully in low-temperature environments.

Our goal is to have finished parcels of wine that offers a variety of blending options for the bench. The key characters we look for in this rosé is structure, gentle phenolic presence and depth of flavour beyond just pure fruits. We look for more savoury complexities and spicy lifts on the nose. It is meant to be a serious wine.

"I love to make wines of contradiction; they embrace tradition whilst challenging the norm. Applying techniques I have learnt from the world’s best and reshaping them to suit the varietals and regions I work with forms a big part of my approach. My goal is to create wines that are varietally honest, perfumed and not overshadowed by extractive measures or oak. I make wines to be enjoyed now, tomorrow and beyond the next decade"
